Once applied, Ruby Slippers has quite a matte finish. I find most glitters have this, but this one is really matte. It’s nothing that a super glossy top coat can’t fix though, just note that this isn’t a polish that could be left without a topcoat unless that was the effect that you are after. The photos are 2 coats without a topcoat, just to show what it is like on its own. I think that you would need about 3 or 4 coats to create a fully opaque effect on its own or pop a different varnish underneath for a bolder effect.
I absolutely love painting my nails. I remember constantly raiding my mums nail polish drawers when I was little and always going for the same glittery shades. Now we share nail polishes and she always picks the glittery ones in my collection too. I can’t remember the last time I bought a nail polish that wasn’t from Barry M. I just find them such good value for money and the selection is spot on. I recently picked up the shade Ruby Slippers to add to my glitter collection.
Ruby Slippers is a nice raspberry glitter shade. I go through stages where I want to cover my nails in as much glitter as possible and then other times I keep them really plain – there is no in-between with me, I’m an all or nothing kinda girl lol. As you can tell, today is a glitter day.
I am a bit on the fence with this polish, the colour is really lovely, but the glitter just isn’t bold enough for me. It is a lot more subtle than the glitters that I usually go for, I think I just prefer chunky pieces of glitter personally as they tend to come across a lot bolder and apply with less coats.
Have you tried this polish? What did you think? ♥
