The primer itself is a pearlescent cream, which dries with a slight golden shimmer. You only need the tiniest amount to cover your whole face and it only takes a few seconds to settle. As soon as this is applied, my skin has a nice subtle glow. It really is subtle though, there is no chance of an Edward Cullen sparkle! Even after foundation is applied, it still has a radiant glow to it.
I must admit, I never really used to use a Primer when applying my makeup. I think that I never really understood what they were for, so could never really see a difference. I think that and the fact I was probably using the complete wrong type! Last time I went to pick up a new foundation at Estée Lauder, the assistant mentioned the Illuminating Perfecting Primer to me. At first I thought that it was just another upsell, which I suppose it still kinda was, but when she swatched the foundation with and without the primer I was sold.
The main difference that I found using this as a base is that it smooths out drier areas. I have extremely dry skin on parts of my face and this primer seems to create a sort of barrier to stop the foundation from clinging. My face looks a lot smoother when this is on and a just a lot more glowy in general.
My face doesn’t seem to go shiny since using this either. There was a time, when my face would suddenly go super shiny in a few hours, but this seems to stop this from happening which is always a plus. I ran out of this a little while back and immediately had to repurchase, after a few days I could really tell that I wasn’t using it again, as my foundation was looking really flat.
This is part of my everyday routine now and I can honestly say that I cannot apply my makeup without it.
