ombre-ish hair

I have always wanted crazily coloured hair. Ever since I was little I have longed after pink/purple/green/blue anycolourbutmyown locks! So, on Sunday I decided to have a little play, having naturally dark hair, I always find it hard to dye my hair any colour other thank brown or red. So when I decided on a purple dipdye, I knew it would be a hard task. I started off by ombreing (is that even a word?) my hair first using a L'Oreal Wild Ombres kit. I would definitley recommend this, as the kit is so easy to use! I then used Swartzkopf ultra bright dye 'purple punk' and added it to the tips on the sections that I had previously ombre'd. Unfortunately this really didn't work for me, I think I ended up redying too soon after I had ombre'd it so the purple just didn't settle into my hair at all. I was really impatient, I did end up putting the purple on almost instantly..naughty Em (don't do this!) Instead I was left with this result...

I do really like this don't get me wrong, its just my dream of having purple hair is still just a dream *sad face* I think this effect is quite unusual, its like an ombre with a pinky red twist! The funny thing is, whenever I wash my hair I end up with bright violet dye running in the water, so there must actually be purple in there..somewhere?!

Do you have any tips for a novice like me, for dying dark hair a bit more of a crazy colour?

dermalex rosacea cream

I posted at the beginning of the month showing you how I cover rosacea on my face. I was so nervous pressing the publish button, as I tend to get a little worried when I share a bit more of a personal post with you. I don't know why I worried though as your comments were amazing, not that I expected anything different of course, thankyou!

Shortly after I was contacted to try a new cream that aims to help treat rosacea. Now I know that it cannot be cured completely but any cream that claims to treat symptoms and help reduce redness is definitely worth a try in my opinion. Especially as it is steroid and paraben free! Like I said before, I understand that not everyone will want to cover rosacea up as this is part of who you are and it is not a bad thing at all. I spent many years at school/adult life being teased about my bright red face, this has led to me literally never leaving the house without make up on, I know this may sound stupidly vain but it is really just a confidence issue. If my face didn't permanently look so flushed, I would happily prance around makeup free..maybe!

rosacea help
dermalex rosacea cream
rosacea treatment cream
 Dermalex rosacea repair cream* £18.99

Dermalex rosacea cream contains UV filters to help neutralise triggers of rosacea and contains soothing and calming ingredients too. The instructions say to apply twice a day, which I am usually awful at doing but I have actually been a really good girl and managed to put it in a really obvious place so there is no way of me forgetting! I honestly have to make lists for everything due to my forgetfulness.

The cream itself is pale green which I presume is to mask the redness slightly like I showed you in my post before. It absorbs into the skin without feeling oily, in fact within a few minutes you can't even feel it on there at all. The scent really reminds me of rose, although the cream is fragrance free it does still have a slight scent to it. Dermalex is slightly on the pricey side I admit but after using it, I think I can see why!

I have been using this for just over a week and I have to say I am really impressed. I'm not going to lie, I really didn't know what to expect as I have tried so many creams before without noticing any difference. When I first applied this cream I was slightly worried as my face instantly went bright red, but after about 30 seconds my face calmed down dramatically. I don't think this was down to the cream though, as my skin seems to do this when I put anything on it, so I would more likely put this down to my extremely sensitive skin. I have to say I still have a slightly flushed looking face, but nowhere near as red as it normally is. The normal itchiness of my face seems to have died off slightly too. If this is how it looks after a week, I am excited to see how it improves after a month or so.

I will keep you posted when I have been using this cream for about 4 weeks so that you can hopefully see the difference too.

You can buy Dermalex cream from Boots.

holiday buys

You don't know how long I have literally been waiting to type this post up for! I have had it written in my diary for ages. Its kind of a little countdown, as exactly a month today I will be on holiday yeeeeeha! I think I am actually going to implode from excitement, I honestly cannot wait! We booked it well over a year ago and I have felt like a child counting down to christmas ever since! I even had a sudden burst of excitement and knocked tea all over Lewis yesterday and it was safe to say he really wasn't impressed! In true holiday shopping style, I thought I would compose a wishlist containing the holiday bits I want need.
holiday wishlist
1. River Island shorts
For me, shorts are a staple part of keeping cool on holiday. I am never really brave enough to wear them here but always seem to wear them on holiday..strange! These shorts from are perfect as they will go with anything!
2. New Look dress
I love a cute ditsy print dress and this one would be perfect for any days out or cocktails on the beach. I really think I may have to invest come pay day!
3. Roxy beach towel
When I was younger, I was absolutely obsessed with Roxy and thats something that has never really changed. I had every Roxy rucksack known to man and still love their bikinis and anything surf in general, so this is perfect for me!
4. Ray Ban RB3025
If you read this blog regularly you will know I love Ray Bans and I have had my eye on this pair for ages now. I can't really justify a new pair, but for now I can dream at how pretty they are.
5. Lazy Oaf Tote Bag
I absolutely love this bag. I think it would make a good replacement for my Iron Fist beach bag that is currently on its last legs. Me and Lewis always walk along together so obviously I would have to face it in his direction.
I could buy everything on this wishlist although my bank balance really wouldn't thank me for it so I won't haha. Would any of these items be on your list too?

sunday nails #40 - galaxy nails

I seem to be having a bit of a purple theme going on this week and it all started off with this eyeshadow. From that I have tried to dip dye my hair purple, which is something that I have wanted to do for ages, I have just never really had the guts. I honestly have been trying to do it all day but nothing I have tried works. At first I ombre'd my hair, then I put a purple dye over the top of the ombre, but the purple never stuck to my hair it just washed straight off. I will be trying again on my next day off so if you have any tips or certain dyes to use, let me know as I really want purple tips!

Back to the purple theme, I have also been sporting purple nails this week. Whilst looking through my nail varnish cabinet I found this little gem lurking at the back. Remember fantasy fire?! The must have nail polish by max factor last year? Well I actually forgot about it and one swipe reminded me how pretty it is so thought I would use it again for this weeks sunday nails!

I took these photos in the sun as this is where the nail polish really stands out. In the shade it really isn't anything special, but as soon as it hits sunlight it becomes magical with lots of two tone glitters. I decided to add little sparkly dots over the top, which is where the galaxy name comes in as they look like little planets! This design does slightly remind me of christmas too, which is 4 months today not that i'm counting or anything!

I don't think this pretty polish will be working its way back to forgotten part of the cabinet any time soon!

I hope you have all had a lovely sunday!

maybelline color tattoo 24hr eyeshadow - endless purple

I absolutely love the colour purple. Although I can be a bit of a pink girl at times, purple always seems to creep its way back into my heart. You will often see me with purple nail varnish and if I can incorporate purple into my makeup or anything, I usually will especially via lipstick form! So when I saw this purple eyeshadow, I knew I had to have it! If you read this blog regularly you will know I have been on a bit of a color tattoo hype recently and today's choice of product is no exception.

Maybelline color tattoo eyeshadow 'endless purple' £4.99

Endless Purple is a beautiful electric violet shade. It is slightly metallic and has a lovely sheen to it without being too 80's. The colour is really vibrant and is really fun to play around with, if you like a splash of colour on your eye makeup. If you don't want such an intense hit, I would say to try using it as an eyeliner too.

The formula for this I am so in love with! Although I would say that this colour really needs a lot of layering to get an even finish as it tends to show up more pigmented in some areas than others. I found that this colour was easier to apply with your finger which is something I never do, but the brush method wasn't working for me so I used this to get a bit more of an even layer.

I really cannot fault these eyeshadows for their longevity, as again I managed to keep it on all day without having to touch it up once. Even with no primer, this didn't crease by the time I finished work so I am thoroughly impressed!

I really can't wait to try more colours! I do seem to have a habit of picking another one up every time I go into Boots or Superdrug, so I'm pretty sure soon I will have them all haha!

favourites: glitter nails

I have mentioned countless times before on this blog that I am absolutely in love with glitter. Especially glitter nail varnishes, although like any other human I hate how hard they are to get off! The best way that I always find to get glitter off is with the PVA glue method, although for me even that is tricky as I never seem to put enough on!

These are my favourite glitter polishes and i'm not gunna lie they were extremely hard to choose as I have so many. If it has a slight sparkle, I am there...a bit like a magpie! Pink and purple are my favourite colours which is why I love 'Bloomsbury Square'. 'Freak Out' is made up of all different sized glitter pieces which makes it look like a mosaic. I love 'Accessorize Bronze Illusion' as the colour goes with anything! 'Ibiza Mix' looks really cool layered over other polishes, especially black! 'Battersea' is a beautiful colour which is why it had to be included too!

I would love to hear about your favourite glitter polishes too, so recommend away!

chi chi blogger competition

The lovely people at etailPR and Chi Chi are currently holding a competition for bloggers where you can win £200 to spend on Chi Chi clothing...amazing right?! If you have been on the Chi Chi website before you will know they stock some absolutely gorgeous dresses for all occasions too!

Currently, I am wedding outfit shopping as I have a wedding to go to pretty soon and me being me I obviously don't have an outfit sorted ha! I really need to find some inspiration so thought there is no better time than now! So lets just call this my wedding outfit moodboard/competition entry all in one go!

Anyone that knows me, knows that I will nearly always go for a skater style dress. Fitted bust and flared skirt, being quite curvy this is definitely the style that suits me best! So for me the Leonie dress (1) is perfect. I love the lace detail on the bust and the colour is absolutely beautiful, I just wish I had pins to die for to pull off no tights ha! I always think a maxi is a perfect style for a wedding and the Izar dress (2) ticks all of the boxes for me, the simple detailing around the neckline sets it off perfectly! I am so in love with the Myah dress (3), the colours, the style, everything is beautiful. The Lali dress (4) is extremely elegant and the colours and sequins are so pretty without being too over the top for a wedding. Like I said before a skater style is what suits me best and the Alexis dress (5) is so cute, I really love the swirly hem.

Being a sucker for a pretty dress, I am glad I have managed to narrow it down to 5 options, although I really could have added hundreds to this wishlist.

If you want to enter for your chance to win too, all of the details are on the etailPR website here! You will have to be quick though as the competition ends tomorrow at 5!

Good Luck! :)

urban decay 24/7 glide on eye pencil V maybelline chromatics

I mentioned before when I posted about Maybelline chromatics eyeliner that I found the formula amazing value for money and mentioned how alike it was to my favourite Urban Decay eye pencils. Urban Decay have been my absolute go to brand for years although I find them to be a little expensive for a cheeky treat sometimes...see I am trying to be good! So I thought I would show you some swatches of both brands together so you can compare too.

I chose 'Covet' from Urban Decay and 'turquoise vibe' from Maybelline as they are the most similar colours to compare. Upon swatching I actually found Maybelline to come across a lot creamier although Urban Decay is a lot better for a smokier look as it can be smudged better. Both pencils are extremely pigmented and have a nice metallic finish with Covet having tiny glitter pieces in it as well.
Currently there are only 4 Chromatics pencils to choose from and they are £4.49, whilst Urban Decay have at least 50 so their range is a lot broader and they are £14. I will always be a fan of Urban Decay, don't get me wrong but I think as a cheaper alternative these chromatics are just as good!

Urban Decay pencils are available here.

MAC amplified creme lipstick - double shot

I'm not going to lie, I think my mum is actually becoming as bad as me for buying lipsticks, although I have really tried to be good lately! I always drag her along to the MAC counter with me and before I know it she is getting a cheeky new lipstick too. This is one of her lipsticks but it looks so nice I thought I would borrow it for myself!

I wouldn't normally go for a brown or nude lipstick for myself, there is just something about a pink or a red that I seem to just sway towards those shades, but this shade looked so nice I thought I would test it out.

Double Shot is a lovely mocha/chocolate brown. It is the closest shade to a bar of cadbury chocolate that I have ever seen in my life, to the point it actually looks good enough to eat! *mind starts to wonder towards the heaven that is cadbury land* Anyway back to the lipstick, the brown itself is a true creamy nude brown with no pink tones to it at all. Perfect if you are looking for a solid brown shade.

The texture of this lipstick is very creamy and not very drying which is a godsend if you have dry lips like me. The colour is extremely pigmented and comes across as near enough opaque on first application. The whole finish is very similar to a cremesheen finish, in terms of how it feels on the lips. Although it is a lot more opaque so doesn't really need to be layered up as much as a cremesheen seems to.

Like other MAC lipsticks it has a slight chocolatey smell in the bullet, which really didn't help my craving of chocolate! Like I said this isn't a shade I would normally go for, I have to admit that it is slightly growing on me and I may be stealing it from my mum more often than she thinks!

As far as I am aware this is part of the permanent range of MAC lipsticks, so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting your hands on one if you wanted!

You can pick up Double Shot from Selfridges here.

sunday nails #39 - barry m gelly paint 'guava'

I hope everyone has had a lovely week! I am currently nursing the hangover from hell, I don't think I will ever learn! Although I don't tend to go and party too often, so I like to do it in style when I actually do ha!

This week I have a Barry M nail varnish to show you, its another shade from the gelly range and its called guava. I really wanted to do some nail art, but this week has absolutely flown by so I haven't found the time anywhere, although the shade of this colour is so beautiful that I feel this is just as good!

Barry M gelly nail paint 'guava' £3.99

Guava actually appears a lot lighter in these photos than it does in real life, the actual shade is a darker teal. I tried at different times throughout the day and really can't get the colour spot on..pesky polish! It is pretty similar to the colour of a spearmint polo wrapper, yes I eat way too many sweets! This polish is opaque in 2 coats and unlike other Gelly shades I have used before this one doesn't start off streaky which is nice. As usual for Barry M this is really good value for money and the shine that it leaves on your nails is beautiful!

I hope you all have a lovely Sunday, mine will be a tedious one as I am in work for stock take, so think of me as you are enjoying your roast dinners!

benefit brow zings

Back in the day when I first started to dabble into the world of make up, eyebrows were never really something that I thought of enhancing. I think I was too lost in a world full of colourful eyeshadows and lipsticks that I never really thought of anything else. Its only as I have got older that I realised eyebrows are a really important feature on the face, well that and looking at makeup disasters from before and realising I really should have done something with those bushy things!

Fast forward a few years and now I really can't live without putting my eyebrows on as part of my make up routine. I don't know what changed, I think I was always too scared at the thought of drawing them on. The thought of using a pencil was really daunting so someone recommended Brow Zings to me and I have never looked back.

Inside each set you get a compact mirror, wax, powder, tweezers, a blending brush and a hard angle brush. Although some may find the price a bit steep, this seriously lasts forever! I had mine for absolutely ages before it showed any signs of usage at all. The general idea is to use the wax and hard angle brush to draw on and define the brows. Then using the powder you fill in any gaps, the powder kind of seals with the wax too, to finish the look.

Here is how I do it..
benefit brow zings

This is literally the easiest way of enhancing your eyebrows and I really don't know why I was worried to start with! The set even comes with a mini lesson of how to draw your eyebrows on which can be seen online here too. I use the shade medium and I still find this to be pretty dark sometimes so swatching is definitely best if you can! The colour is nice and buildable, although it is quite bold too so if it is a natural light look you are going for, then this probably isn't the product for you. Although like I said swatch first, as it could be that the colour looks too dark which is putting you off. This lasts on me all day and I don't even have to think about reapplying, which is handy as you don't really want your eyebrows disappearing throughout the day!

Are you as in love with Brow Zings as me?

i taught i taw a puddy tat

Recently a Primark has opened up in my town. I had mixed feelings about this, as Primarni can have some really good bargains, but then there is also nothing worse than everyone in the same place wearing the same thing, which is ultimately bound to happen here. So I tend to avoid it if I can, unless I am stocking up on basic tees, then I go wild!

The other night I went to get some new pyjamas (one of the other things that it is really good for) and I spotted this tee! Now tweetie pie, was my absolute favourite when I was little, I had everything with him on and used to sit for hours watching looney tunes. So I knew I had to have it!

How cute is it?! It was only £6 too which is such a bargain! I definitely think I am Peter Pan in the sense that I am never growing up!

Have you picked up any bargains from Primark lately?

sunday nails #38 - speckled effect

I hope everyone is having/had a lovely Sunday, I have been working all day which is rubbish. Personally i think it should be illegal to work on a Sunday, I was going to say everyday but I feel that may be slightly extreme. I have been a bit of a rubbish blogger this week and I apologise, I literally have all of these posts planned and written in my diary (scheduling is not my forte haha!) but I have felt so drained and tired this week that I literally haven't been able to do it, which is probably why I should learn to schedule my posts! ;) I just find it easier to type in the moment sometimes, so I suppose its swings and roundabouts eh?
Whilst at work, I was dreaming up todays nails and came up with this..

Now I know that you probably think that I am really late to the speckled nail train, although i have done it before I just thought I would try it with a different colour and what better colour than pink right?!

I used MAC saint germain as a base and then applied l'oreal confetti top coat on top to create the speckled effect. I absolutely love the colours, they remind me of mini eggs or baby birds eggs.
What have you lovely people been up to today?

maybelline color tattoo 24hr eyeshadow - turquoise forever

I mentioned before when I reviewed light in purple color tattoo 24hr eyeshadow that I brought this colour at the same time. I have really been looking forward to trying this one out, it is slightly more me as light in purple was slightly too pale for my liking.

Please excuse my tired looking photos that you are about to see. I don't think any amount of makeup could cover this tired looking face lately haha!

maybelline color tattoo 24hr eyeshadow 'turquoise forever' £4.99

Turquoise forever is a colour that is more up my street. It is a lovely electric turquoise with a beautiful metallic shimmer to it. The colour reminds me of the ocean and is so vibrant. If you love a bold pop with your eye makeup then this is the colour for you!

Like the other colour tattoo eyeshadow, the texture is creamy with a lovely smooth/ non greasy feel. I applied this eyeshadow with a brush, but like I said before it can easily be applied with a finger too depending on what you prefer.

The staying power on this eyeshadow is amazing, it actually lasts a whole day without budging, which is really good. Especially with such a bright colour, you don't really want it to fade as it would lose its oomph and just look like a murky faded blue.

I have to say that I am in love with this range. I love using my eyeshadows as eyeliners and these are perfect for doing this and they don't crease if you want to use them as a normal eyeshadow too. I have my eye on On & On Bronze, a lovely nude colour to try next.
