sunday nails #33 - glittery tips

What a lovely day it has been, I hope you have all had a nice Sunday too! I think the atmosphere just seems so different everywhere when the weather is all jolly, although I don't know if that is just me being really optimistic ha! Also, what amazing weather the peeps at Glastonbury have had! If you went I am super jealous, I watched Arctic monkeys on telly on friday and they were amazing, I haven't actually managed to catch many other acts though but I think I am definitely going to be catching up on the Rolling Stones when I have the chance.

Watching Glastonbury is also where I had the idea for this weeks nails. It's not nail art this week unfortunately, but the nail polish is actually called Glastonbury and it is one of my favourite glitters. I think whenever I hear the name of the festival I remember that I have this little gem hiding in my nail varnish drawers.

I decided to just add a touch of glitter to the tips to create a bit of a glitter gradient effect. I used nails inc. Chester Street as the base and then dabbed on a tiny bit of nails inc. Glastonbury to the tips.

Hope you have all had a lovely day!

wishlist: i love a super hero.

Another payday, another wishlist. This time I am lusting after something a little different. I really love the comic/super hero theme that is on show these days. I think there is something to suit every style and you can still add a girly twist. Wolverine is my favourite character, although I can't find anything with him on, (let me know if anyone knows of anything!) Here are my favourites from other super heroes though..

I am really in love with the grey batman tee from river island, i think this may soon be coming out of the wishlist and straight into my purchased list!

ways to connect...

As google reader is closing on Monday (I still can't get over it!) I thought I would share with you the easiest ways to still connect with my blog. I'm not really sure what is happening with the likes of GFC or anything. As far as I am aware this isn't going anywhere currently, but here are a few other methods so you can stay up to date if you want to!

Bloglovin
This is probably the easiest way to still connect with this blog as it updates when a new post is published and is a good way of keeping all of the blogs you like in one place. Kind of along the same lines as Google Reader, but better. It is really easy to import any blogs you currently read on google reader with a helpful button in the settings menu.

Twitter
I use twitter all of the time, I tweet about a bit of everything but mostly things that happen in my day. I will always answer, so if there is anything you need to ask me this is the quickest method. I will always post a link to my most recent blogpost too, so you can still keep up to date that way.

Instagram
I have a slight addiction to Instagram! Honestly I am posting photos all the time and post blog photos and links on here too. Be prepared for quite a few cat and food photos though, as I am slightly obsessed.

Facebook
All of my latest posts get shared to my Facebook page, although it isn't updated as regularly as any of the other social websites. This is only because it confuses me and I find twitter quicker haha. You will always find my latest post shared on Facebook though if you 'like' the page.

All of the links above will take you directly to my page. I also want to take this time to say thank you for all of your support and thank you for following my little old blog!

gradient style lips

Lately I seem to have an obsession with gradients. I absolutely love the effect when one colour blends into another, whether it is the same shade of a colour or two different colours completely I just love the graduating colours. If I can make a colour blend, I definitely will. I have seen the effect of two tone lips before and thought I would try something a little bit more subtle.

For this look I used Inglot shade '194' lipstick as a base and then I faded in MAC feel my pulse lipstick from the corners inwards. I think this adds a subtle kick to a bold pink lip without being too extreme.
What do you guys think?

sally hansen insta-dri top coat

As much as I love painting my nails 9 times out of 10 I will smudge them. I don't know what it is, I think time just seems to go quicker in my head so it always feels like I have been waiting for them to dry for longer than I actually have. Only today I smudged my nails by hitting my seat belt holder when I lifted the handbrake up...I mean really, who does that. I have so many top coats, but they all tend to take a good while to dry. I have tried nails inc kensington caviar top coat and it is really good as it dries in 45 seconds, but not so good if you don't have too many pennies floating around. So I thought I would opt for something a little cheaper. I have heard good things about Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat so thought I would give it a go.

This top coat is perfect if you are anything like me for nail smudging. It dries super quickly and like it says is 'dry to touch', although I wouldn't recommend sticking anything or playing to much with your nails too soon as they will still smudge (yet again another lesson learnt by me!) This top coat is really handy if you are in a bit of a rush, as this is the time I tend to smudge my nails the most. You can literally just paint your nails before you are due to go somewhere without fear of them being ruined by the time you actually get there which is nice!

My only niggle is that it tends to smudge a little if you paint it over nail art, I think it is maybe due to the different levels of thickness in the layers, so some sections dry sooner. Although for a simple mani it is perfect. For a fast drying top coat, it still has a lovely shine which is really nice too.

my bikini haul

I am definitely in need of a holiday right now. You know where you just have those weeks where everything just gets on top of you and you just want to get away? Well this is how I feel..a break is much needed. Although I have a holiday in September to look forward to and I honestly cannot wait so I am just focusing all of my energies in that for now. Every cloud, eh? Many evening are spent with me and Lew deciding exactly what we are going to eat (main priority!) and where we are going to go. I'm going to Tenerife, so if anyone has been on any good trips or something, please let me know! :)

Another thing I love so much about going on holiday, is actually shopping for holiday items. I don't know if it is because we get such rubbish weather here in the UK that when it actually comes down to getting some sun I kind of run around picking the brightest/frilliest/sparkliest holidaywear going. This year I have started shopping earlier, to spread the cost a bit, but also to catch some summer items now as in September, shops are usually filled with knitwear and slippers and I start panicking. Here are 2 bikini's that I really couldn't resist..

The skull bikini is from River Island but I got mine from ASOS (and it's currently in the sale!) it is so pretty. I have mentioned a zillion times before how much I love skulls and being a bit of a magpie too this is the most perfect bikini for me! I can't wait to see how the crystals sparkle and catch the light in the sun. The orange bikini is from Accessorize and I love the cute little frill detail, although the colour is a bit vibrant so I will be wearing it a bit more towards the end of my holiday when hopefully my skin has a bit of colour! I love floral patterns and the style is really flattering too.

Have you got any holidays planned?

what's new pussycat?

I don't think I have ever mentioned my love of cats before, if I have I'm sorry! Honestly, not in a crazy cat lady kind of way (I hope!) I just love the fluffy little things. Now a few weeks ago we found 2 little kittens inside my garage, after a long session of begging on my part, my parents decided that I wasn't allowed to keep them because owning 5 cats would be a bit excessive..sad times. The kittens named Bert and Ernie (yes I am amazing at naming animals) are now safely in the hands of a local rescue centre as it turned out they were only 4 weeks old and needed a mummy cat anyway. Poor little babies!

I thought I would take this as an opportunity to show you my lovely feline friends as I really love reading ickle animal posts myself so thought I would share mine with you.

Geordie is MY cat. You know where you have an animal that loves you more than anyone else, well thats Geordie. She's a full on lap cat, usually you haven't even sat down before she is waiting to steal your lap. I got her when I was 8, so she is the first animal that I have properly grown up with, bless her.

Now Ollie is a mummys boy, he doesn't like anyone apart from my mum and honestly has an attitude like a teenager. He weighs a tonne and has an obsession with attacking feet. He's not vicious, but he decides when he wants a fuss and when he doesn't, he means it.

Smokey is a little prince. He belonged to one of my neighbours before us, but had a few issues with them being horrible and basically moved in with us. He is honestly the cutest cat you will ever see and the mat he is sitting on in the picture is the mat he used to sleep on in our garden when he was chucked out of their house!

I hope you liked this different kind of post from me, I've been thinking about chucking in a few more lifey posts in the blog. Not that I lead a very exciting life, but if anyones interested let me know!

sunday nails #32 - candy striped nails

Hello lovelies, I hope that you are all having a lovely sunday. Firstly, I am going to apologise for 2 nail posts in a row, not very well planned out by me there, whoopsie! Tomorrows post, won't be nail related..pinkie promise!

I knew I was going to do this nail art when I received the nails inc '10 summer must haves' collection in the post this week. (post here) The colours were sitting together in the packaging and looked so summery that I knew I had to stripe them together.

The colours remind me of those fruit salad sweets you can get but much brighter. Although the actual design makes me think of candy crush when you get 4 in a row and the fruit turns stripey...addiction much?! I used nails inc. phoenix place for the base and then added nails inc. porchester place for the stripes. This design is so easy to do, I just used striping tape and pulled it off again whilst the varnish was wet, simple but effective.

nails inc. 10 summer must haves collection

Don't you just love it when you get an email that has an amazing offer inside?! Last week I got an email from nails inc. about a summer 'must haves' collection for £20. When I looked at the shade names I didn't actually own any either..bonus. As such a nails inc fan, I knew this was a bargain that had to be had. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am a sucker for money off anyway even if an item has like a pound off, I am there!

Now the collection was only available for a day I think because it had disappeared by the next day. Thats the only trouble with nails inc promotions, its kind of a blink and you will miss it kind of thing so you just have to keep your eyes peeled. I thought I would show you what shades were included as they are still available to buy individually and some of them are amazing colours too.

There is a huge variety of colours and textures included so there is definitely something for everyone! My favourites are definitely 'park lane' and 'phoenix place' as you can't beat a good glitter and the neon pink is gorgeous. As usual, application with these polishes is really good and opaque in 2 coats. I am more than impressed with my cheeky little bargain!

Which is your favourite colour in this collection?

you had me hooked again from the minute you sat down

You know when you just have one of those weeks, no matter how many hours of sleep I have I just tend to feel so tired all of the time. I think I need a holiday, anyone willing to whisk me away?

I have an outfit to show you today, I actually managed to venture into the garden to take some photos! This has fast become one of my favourite dresses. I brought it for a night out, but it is so versatile it can be used during the day too. As its quite thick material, I tend to wear it on those days when the weather is a bit rubbish and pop some leggings underneath.

I think for the rest of this week I am just going to chill out and sleep in between working. What are all of your plans for the rest of the week?

l'oreal super liner blackbuster intense

I love a good chunky black eyeliner, most days you won't see me anywhere without a flick of black on my eyes. So I was really excited to see that l'oreal had released a new eyeliner style pen; the super liner blackbuster.  I always use l'oreal for my liquid eyeliner needs, I love the super liner luminizer so thought I would give this a try. Now I have tried marker pen styles before like Barry M wink eyeliner and they are really good for creating that bold black eye. So I was excited to try this one out.

Now I'm not going to lie, when I first tried this eyeliner I absolutely hated it. Well hate is a really strong word, but I just didn't get on with it at all. The main problem for me, was the chunkiness of the actual 'pen', I found it really hard to manoeuvre it properly, it just felt way too bulky. Now I have used it for a few days, I think I have got used to it a lot more and it is now much easier to use, I think I was just too used to thin pencils and I needed to grip it differently. Although I still wasn't sold on it, due to the nib being so fine..

Now the thing that really changed my mind about this eyeliner was its staying power. For me, it lasted a whole day which is amazing and that even included a little cry (don't ask!) without a smudge or fade in sight, yay. The problem with the nib was fixed after a good few uses, I think its just down to wear and pressure, just like an actual pen it just needs to be broken in slightly.

Overall I become more impressed with this eyeliner the more I use it, it has a perfect point if you just can't get used to normal eyeliners with long brushes. Worth a try if you are as fond of winged eyes as much as me!

This is just a quick Sunday nails post as I have just got in from the theatre with my mum. I am such a silly sausage i didn't even think to write up the post earlier.

nails inc. 'battersea' nail polish

Another day, another cheeky new nail polish. This one I have had since my birthday but only just got around to using it. I love a glitter but always dread taking them off again so have to work myself up to it! When I was doing a little bit of online ordering after my birthday I came across Battersea nail polish. Battersea is a web exclusive and being the sucker for exclusives that I am I ordered in a flash.

nails inc battersea

This is described on the nails inc website as an emerald green shade but to me looks more like a teal colour. To be honest this suits me better as emerald green glitter can end up looking slightly christmassy. The polish is opaque in 2 coats which for a glitter is amazing. I managed to apply it like normal polish and didn't need to blob it on which I always do and then it never dries properly, anyone else do this?

I am actually trying the PVA glue glitter method, which will hopefully make removing this glitter easier. Has anyone else tried this? I will let you know how I get on!
