l'oreal color riche boosting serum lipstick 'bright burgundy'

This lipstick has been like a little gem hidden away in my drawers. Originally I brought it for my mum, but I actually brought the wrong one for her and not being one for turning down a lipstick I kept it for myself. I do love a good red lipstick, although they can seem a little scary, but I've found the trick is to keep swatching until you find the right red for you.

The lipstick in question is L'Oreal Color Riche Boosting Serum Lipstick in 'Bright Burgundy'. The formula contains Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid, to hydrate and plump with moisture and you can see this encased in the centre of the lipstick.

The colour of the red itself reminds me of cherries, its vibrant but not in your face red. Once on the lipstick feels very moisturising and has a lovely sheen to it which lasts until the lipstick starts to wear. Although I have to say that when it does start to wear, it really shows. It kind of rubs away but leaves the lips looking really patchy and dry, so I would just watch out for this. Other than that, the lipstick's texture and colour is beautiful and I am really glad mum decided she didn't want it!

barry m nail paint 'spring green'

After seeing Jessie J's green nails on the voice, I have become slightly obsessed with the colour green. I knew I wanted to try a green on my nails. It's strange because I don't actually watch the Voice, I'm more of  a BGT girl myself but I was flicking through the channels one day and noticed her nails. After trawling the shelves, I finally settled with Barry M nail paint 'Spring Green', I knew good old Barry M wouldn't let me down!

Barry M Nail Paint '290 Spring Green' £2.99

Spring Green is a true Emerald green, its vibrant but sits opaque enough to not be anything near neon. After 2 coats it finishes with a lovely glossy finish, although I do keep thinking of Christmas and how I can combine it with red glitter at that time of the year, slightly premature? This colour is perfect for summer, if you want something different from the pastel trend.

it's the way i'm feeling, i just can't deny

When I opened the Illamasqua mystery box, I said that playing around is all part of the fun and that is exactly what I did here. I wanted a look that I could still wear for work, so I decided to add a flash of Illamasqua liquid metal along my normal black liner flick. I teamed this look with a nude lipstick, to make everything all about the eyes!

For this look I used..

Face - L'Oreal anti redness primer
             MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation 'NW20'
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder 'Sandstorm' (Swatch)
Max Factor Flawless Perfection Blush 'Classic Rose'

Brows - Benefit Brow Zings 'medium'

Eyes - Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow 'Flasher' (Swatch)
             Illamasqua Liquid Metal 'Electrum' (Swatch)
             Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner 'Zero'
L'Oreal Super Liner Luminizer 'Black Diamond/Brown Eyes'
L'Oreal False Lash Flutter Mascara (Swatch)

Lips - MAC matte lipstick 'Mehr' (Swatch)

I really like this look as it adds a bit of colour without being too over the top for daytime and the liquid metal really catches the light when the sun is out!

my perfect summer bag

I seem to spend my life buying new handbags, it's definitely some sort of addiction I have. Every occasion needs a new handbag and I could open a shop selling all of the bags I own. You think this would stop me buying, but you are wrong..I have yet another new bag to show you. This time it is my summer addition (everyone gets a new bag for summer right?!) I get so sick of having blacks and browns all the time, so I decided to add a splash of colour with this tote.

This is quite a casual outfit for me, but it is a comfy outfit perfect for shopping. The tote is big enough to hold everything in and has a removable compartment inside too. I teamed it with one of my favourite necklaces I got for my birthday and my trusty converse. The only thing with having a big bag is that I tend to fill it with things that I don't even need, anyone else do this?

Disclaimer: Everything in this post was brought by me, except the necklace which I received as a birthday present from my lovely friend.

rose & co. patisserie de bain hand cream 'sugared violet'

rose & co. patisserie de bain hand cream 'Sugared Violet' £5
You may remember how much I raved about rose & co. cherry kiss lip balm before...well I treated myself yet again, but this time to a hand cream. I just can't resist the vintage packaging and the luxurious smells, I stand like a kid in a sweet shop smelling and lusting after everything for ages. So after testing all of the hand creams, I settled with the 'Sugared Violet' scent.
Parma violets are always the sweets I go for first in those little sweetie goody bags. I absolutely love the smell and that is exactly what this hand cream smells like, although it does mean that whenever I smell my hands I do really fancy some sweets. The pot looks like you don't get a lot, but you just need a tiny amount so in theory it will last for ages. The cream soaks in, but doesn't leave your skin feeling oily which is good for me as I usually moisturise on the go and the softness does actually last for a good few hours. So it looks like I have fallen in love with the scents of Rose & Co. yet again...
Have you tried any Rose & Co products?

we can live like Jack and Sally if we want

You know when you don't listen to a song/band for ages then you hear them and you feel the need to listen to them over and over because you forgot how good they are? Yes (I hope so, so I don't look slightly mad!)? Well I had that this week, when I listened to a bit of Blink 182. I honestly haven't listened to them in ages but when they came on whilst my iPod was on shuffle, our love became rekindled and they reminded me of old times. Lovely piece of random info for you...

Now I love blue eyeliner, but I think it is such a hard colour to wear without looking slightly 80's retro. Not that its necessarily a bad thing, it's just not the look I tend to go for. I have been wearing this look a lot lately, having a darker colour on top with a flash of blue underneath as I find it makes the blue a lot easier to wear.

sunday nails #24 - pink stripes

I actually managed to sit in the garden and paint my nails when I finished work yesterday, this is literally one of my favourite things to do so was really happy that the sun decided to grace us with its presence. Today's nails are quite simple, due to the fact that I have been working quite a lot so haven't had enough time to do anything too fantastical. Next week I promise there will be something on each nail!

This week I used nails inc. 'Chester Street' as the base and added stripes of nails inc. 'Shoreditch' on the ring finger using striping tape. I then finished with 2 coats of nails inc. albert bridge topcoat.

I really love this effect and I think I have finally mastered the art of taking the striping tape off whilst the varnish is still wet, to get crisper lines!

You may also notice that I am now sitting at theminimermaid.com instead of a blogspot address, after finally making the plunge and getting a domain. How exciting! Don't forget you can also follow me using the links below!

blueberry babe mud face mask

I have felt in such a strange mood recently with everything, you know when your physically somewhere but your mind is always somewhere else. I don't know what it is, I think I just feel a little bit lost in some ways. So I decided to have an evening of pampering and thought I would test out this mud mask from NPW. For £1.50 I didn't really expect much, but like I said I just really wanted pampering.
NPW blueberry babe mud mask £1.50

The smell reminds me of mixture between blueberries and calpol, blueberry calpol if you like? Not in a medicinal kind of way, just the way that calpol has a certain smell to it. The texture is really creamy, but not sticky, kind of like a thick moisturiser. Afterwards my face felt slightly tighter but really refreshed and cooled.  This is not the most amazing mask I have ever used, but I would definitely buy this again, if I was in need of a quick 5 minute refresher.

illamasqua eyes & nails mystery selection box

I have had my eyes on this mystery box for a while, but nowhere near me sells Illamasqua unfortunately. I was looking through my local Debenhams and actually found this box hiding away in the sale area! It was supposed to be £35 but it was on sale for £17.50..bargain! Honestly I was squeeling and everything! I always liked the concept of lucky dip bags as a child and I love surprises so this box is perfect for me. Inside the box you get 6 full size products, 2 of which you know but the rest are a mystery! If you do not want to know what you get, don't read on! ;)

2 nail polishes 'jan' and 'gamma'
Jan is a really nice greige colour which leans slightly towards lilac, my kind of colour. Whereas gamma is a very neon orange, slightly too bright for me, but would be nice on summer tootsies.

This colour is a nice white with a slight grey tint to it, the colour actually reminds me of chalk slightly. Its a bit too light for me, but I will have fun playing.

I didn't think I would, but I really like this colour. Its like an army green and would look really nice mixed with gold.

This is another item that you know about before purchasing the box. It is a really pretty nude eyeliner, with light pink sparkles running through it. Very pretty.

Although there are bits in this box that I love and some that I don't love as much, I think this is really worth the money, especially if you are a fan of illamasqua anyway as this box is worth £92.50. Playing around with colours that you wouldn't usually wear is all part of the fun anyway (I'm sure they will be featured in posts soon!) I cannot find this box online anymore, but if you are interested I think it is worth popping down to your local Debenhams like I did!

cause you could be mine, but you're way out of line

I've got a little Primark bargain to show you today. I don't know how I feel about Primark, its one of those shops that I want to hate but I just can't. A new store just opened up near me, which is slightly annoying as everyone is going to be wearing the same thing, whereas before you had to travel for those bargains! Anyway I went up there late one evening to have a mooch and ended up buying a few bits. One of the things I picked up was this cute Guns n' roses tee.

rimmel stay matte pressed powder 'sandstorm'

I was doing my make up this morning and it suddenly came to me that I have never really mentioned this product before, even though it is one of my most used items! My skin is really strange, one day it will be really oily and the next it will be dry, I guess that makes it combination right? I always use Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder 'Sandstorm' and it is actually a godsend. I use my foundation as normal and then dust this on top where I tend to be most oily. It usually only tends to be down the side of my nose, but this powder is really good at fixing this and keeping it a lot less shiny looking.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder £3.99
For £3.99 this powder is such a bargain, Rimmel claim that it lasts for 5 hours, I find it to last slightly less, but for this price you can't really complain! Are you a fan of this powder?

ray-ban pink wayfarer sunglasses

Now there is no accessory I love more than a pair of sunglasses! I think this is why I love summer so much, every moment spent outside I will always have a pair on. Don't worry though, I'm not one of those annoying people that wear them indoors, I just love wearing them. I have this little tradition that every time we go on holiday I want NEED to treat myself to a new pair of sunglasses and this year is no exception. Although I am not going until September, these were too cute to resist so I got them now ready for the British summer *cough cough* I love Ray-Bans but I have never owned a pair of wayfarer's, I usually always opt for aviators, but I saw these and I knew I had to have them.

The colour of these are lovely, they are a matt dusky pink which verges on lilac slightly too. I brought mine from littlewoods, where my mum had a discount code for 15% off too..bonus! Now I'm just wishing for the sun to come out...

happy anniversary...

So today is mine and Lewis 8th anniversary! Its really strange to think that we started going out when I was 13 and he was 14 (thought I better get his age in there too before any age difference comments appeared ha!) But time has honestly flown, well they do say that time flies when you're having fun, which is so right! Because I have to say I am genuinely really happy!

We haven't actually spent the day together because Lewis had to work, boo! But he got me these beautiful flowers, that smell really nice too.

I'm not saying you have to be in a relationship to be happy, as you can't be happy with someone until you are happy with yourself! But for me, being with lewis is my happy place and I wouldn't have it any other way.

sunday nails #23 - barry m gelly paint 'prickly pear' + 'greenberry'

I honestly think I have some sort of issue. I can't even walk past a pharmacy without popping in to the make up section. This time I managed to pick up 2 new nail varnishes from Barry M. I love their Gelly range and was immediately drawn to 'Greenberry' and 'Prickly Pear' as they are lovely pastel shades ready for the summer!

barry m prickly pear greenberry
barry m prickly pear greenberry

Barry M Gelly Nail Paint £3.99

Greenberry is a creamy mint green and Prickly Pear is a milky lilac, both of these shades complement each other really well too. A topcoat isn't really needed as the varnish is really shiny, although I used one for consistency. The formula is quite thick and to me it applied quite streaky although the colour evened out with drying. I really can't stop looking at my nails, the colours are so fun!

Are you a fan of the Gelly range?
