lush 'mint julips' lip scrub

I suffer from such dry lips, which can be really annoying. This makes it so hard for me to be able to wear bold or matte lipsticks without showing any flaws. A lovely friend of mine recommended that I try a lip scrub from Lush, to just scrub away any flakiness, I don't know why but I find this thought disgusting ha! When I went into Lush I immediately went to the bath bombs, but then remembered why I was actually in there and went to the scrubs and balms section instead, see that willpower! There were 3 'flavours' to choose from, Popcorn, Bubblegum and Mint Julips. Now I am a sucker for anything mint smelling or flavoured, so this is the option I went for.

Lush 'Mint Julips' Lip Scrub £5.25

Let me start by saying the smell and taste is seriously amazing. It tastes just like mint choc chip ice cream, which is my favourite all time flavour, bonus! All you do is gently scrub the lips, it does feel a bit gritty to start  with but you feel the lips getting softer instantly and then lick it off after, this is obviously the best bit! I then applied a balm too before adding lipstick and my lips were so smooth!

I can safely say this has improved the softness of my lips and bold lipstick looks much nicer when this is applied first. This is definitely adding itself to my automatic repurchase list!
Have you tried any other Lush lip scrub flavours?

sunday nails #20 - drip, drip.

Even though whenever I look outside snow keeps falling, I still remain optimistic that spring is on its way. It has to turn up soon right? I think I have started to forget what warmth actually feels like and cannot wait until I can live in maxi dresses again. I have spent the afternoon wrapped up warm, drinking tea and dreading to go outside. All this dreaming of spring prompted me to do some nail art using pastel spring colours.

This is quite a simple mani and reminds me of ice cream a little bit! :) What do you think?

MAC archie's girls lipstick 'ronnie red'

I have been trying to get my hands on MAC's Archie's Girls collection for ages now but as it seemed to be sold out everywhere, I kind of just resigned myself to the fact I wasn't going to be getting anything. I have been working away lately which meant that I haven't managed to check my local Debenhams in a few weeks to see if the Archie's Girls collection had arrived there. I popped in today and there it was, in all of its glory, lots of pieces as to be expected were out of stock but I managed to get my hands on Ronnie Red! A raspberry red lipstick.

Ronnie Red is a matte finish lipstick, which can be quite drying but a bit of balm beforehand tends to sort this. The colour itself sits as a bright red with blue undertones, which gives it a nice raspberry tint. I found blotting after the first application helped this lipstick stay on for a good few hours. I usually shy away from bright reds, but I think I may have just found my perfect red!

Have you tried anything from the Archie's Girls collection?

lusting over sunnies

I for one cannot cope with this weather. I mean one minute it is raining, the next it is snowing and then you get a flicker of sunshine..brilliant. My parents are currently on holiday and I think if I hear another mention of a beach I think I might actually cry. Although the lighter evenings are helping me pull through and reminding me that spring/summer should be here sometime soon I hope! I love summer as it is the one time I can wear my favourite accessory..sunglasses! As soon as that sun is out, they are on, although I do actually wear them when driving all year round as the sun can be a little bright on my eyes. I have been window shopping preparing myself ready for the nice weather and thought I would show you my current favourite sunglasses.

I think I've done quite well to fall in love with sunglasses that all seem to be within the same price range, apart from the Ray Bans obviously..but they're Ray Bans so surely that's all the justification I need! ;)
What are your favourite style of sunglasses?

sunday nails #19 - nails inc. kensington caviar gel effect plumping top coat

I have wanted to try nails inc. kensington caviar gel effect plumping top coat for ages and running out of my trusty Barry M top coat this seemed like the perfect opportunity to try something new. I have never actually tried gel nails myself, but I do like the glossy look of them. Nails inc. claim that this will 'create the look of gel nails without the UV lamp' and let you achieve 'smooth, plumped nails' so I thought I would try out this top coat to see if it lives up to this.

I started by painting 2 coats of nails inc. 'westminster' onto my nails and left this to dry. This is one of my favourite purples ever!

The pictures above show no topcoat and how the nail varnish looks on its own. I then added a coat of the gel effect top coat.

As you can see my nails are a lot glossier, even more so than with a normal top coat and they do look a lot plumper. Once applied it dries quickly, although I tend to leave it for an extra 5 minutes just incase, as I always smudge my manicure and end up learning the hard way every time ha! I am really impressed with this top coat, my nails have a constant glossy/wet look to them and I can't wait to show this top coat off in the summer with glossy corals and pinks.

l'oreal glam shine stain splash 'romy'

Looking at the past few posts, can you tell I have been taking full advantage of the L'Oreal 3for2 offer in Boots ha! I thought I would try something new as lately I have gone slightly overkill with the Rouge Caresse lipstick and have decided I own more than half the collection, whoopsie. This time I thought I would try Glam Shine Stain Splash, a lipstain which is described as 'a gloss that acts like a stain'..interesting! In the end I chose 'Romy' as this is one of those your lips but better kind of colours!

L'Oreal Glam Shine Stain Splash 'Romy' £7.99

The shape of the wand makes application really easy, I was always a fan of the Glam Shine range of lipglosses when I was younger and this is the same sort of heart shaped wand. The stain applies slightly sticky to start with, but this wears away after a few minutes and you are left with a nice glossy moisturising feel, which allows you to layer. This colour is like salmon with hints of pink and coral, but I feel it requires a little bit of layering to get a bit more colour depth. I have to say I love the packaging, not that it usually bothers me as its what's inside that counts ;) but it just feels a lot more expensive than it actually is.

Have you tried any of the other colours available?

l'oreal rouge caresse 'lovely rose'

I sent my mum out on a bit of a mission the other day, she said she was going shopping for a new mascara and I knew she would go back to her old trusty l'oreal volume million lashes, so asked her to pick me up a lipstick whilst she was out (knowing that Boots has l'oreal on 3 for 2..sneaky!) What a lovely mum! My only specification was a pale pink that I could wear everyday and to my surprise when I came home from work L'Oreal Rouge Caresse 'lovely rose' was sitting on my bed.

L'Oreal Rouge Caresse 'Lovely Rose'  £8.19 currently on 3 for 2 in Boots

You can see from previous posts that I am a huge fan of l'oreal rouge caresse lipsticks The colour is a lovely ditsy pink similar to fashionista pink (swatch) although it leans more to the pink side as oppose to the purple. Like every other Rouge Caresse the formula is very moisturising although I have found that without a balm the colour seems to stick to any cracks or grooves in the lips, which you may need to look out for as it can look quite blotchy. The actual pigmentation of the lipstick is spot on though! I think mum done a good job, its also quite fun to see what she would pick out for me in terms of make up :)

My Rouge Caresse collection seems to just keep growing, what colours have you tried?

sunday nails #17 - 17 fast finish 'poison'

Another Sunday and another nail varnish to show you, I really do have issues with buying ha. The weeks are absolutely flying by, I cannot believe it is March already! Unfortunately there is no nail art this week as I just cannot seem to find the time with working a bit further away than normal, but all will be resumed in a few weeks...promise! Instead I will show you a colour I brought earlier in the week, 17 fast finish 'poison'. I love anything metallic, especially if it has a two-tone effect to it and this varnish is just that, in one light it has a gold tint and in others it is different shades of green.

The colour reminds me of reptiles and is really interesting to look at, it kind of has a foil effect to it. I love 17 nail varnishes, if you are on a bit of budget (who isn't?!) then I will always recommend these as they are only £2.99 and I haven't tried one with a horrible formula yet.
What do you think of 17 nail varnishes?
